The menu bar shield on the Mac
Updated 2026-10-22
See at a glance whether the server is up, and start, stop or restart it from the menu bar.
Sentinel Operator 3.1.2 and later put the Sentinel shield in the Mac menu bar.
What the color means
| Shield | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Blue | The server on this Mac is running and the site you're signed in to is connected. |
| Orange | Starting, or only part of a multi-server site is running. |
| Red | The server is stopped, or your site can't be reached. |
| Grey | Nothing to watch yet: no server on this Mac and no site signed in. |
The menu
- Start Server, Stop Server, Restart Server. The server Sentinel Operator installed asks for an administrator's password; a site you run under your own account doesn't.
- Open Web Dashboard and Show Server Logs.
- Hide Status Icon removes it; turn it back on in Sentinel Operator's settings.
Stopping the server stops recording, and phones away from home can't connect until you start it again.
More guides, including Sentinel Cloud setup and users and roles, are in the knowledge base for signed-in users.
